Water and Sewer rate increase notice for 2024
WATER AND SEWER RATE INCREASE EFFECTIVE 1ST QUARTER OF 2024
Borough water customers will see a six percent increase in water rates beginning with the 1st quarter 2024 bills. This increase is necessitated by increased costs in personnel, utilities, chemicals and capital needs. The new rates are as follows: first 3,000 or less - minimum charge $27.00; next 297,000 gallons $6.66 per thousand; all in excess of 300,000 gallons $5.06 per thousand.
Borough sewer customers will see an increase in the minimum charge from $45.75 for the first 3,000 gallons or less, to $70.00. All in excess of 3,000 gallons per thousand gallon charge will remain $11.67. This increase is necessitated by increased costs in personnel, utilities, chemicals, capital needs, and a General Obligation Note of 2024 to cover the cost of three sewer projects. The Madison Street Sewer Replacement Project having a contract award price of $1,603,670; replacement of the generator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at a cost of $600,000; and upgrade to the South Reading Avenue Pump Station at an estimated cost of $500,000.
