2026 Tax and Expenses Statement
Boyertown Borough Council Community Update
The Boyertown Borough Council would like to inform our residents of an important decision regarding the future of our town’s infrastructure.
Due to current budget constraints and the pressing need to repair and maintain curbing throughout Boyertown, the Council has voted to implement a 1 Mill tax. This ordinance permits the tax to be used for roads, curbs, curb and ramps. Each year, Council will determine how these funds are allocated to best serve our community.
We want to be clear: this was not a decision made lightly. While we are not pleased to impose a new tax, it is necessary to ensure that Boyertown’s infrastructure remains safe, functional, and consistent with the standards our residents deserve. Curbing is a vital part of that infrastructure, and addressing it in a timely and uniform manner requires both planning and resources.
To further demonstrate transparency:
- The 1 Mill Road Tax will generate approximately $160,500.
- The 2026 Curb and Curb Ramp Replacement Project (East Fifth, West Sixth & Shaner) will cost $239,250.
- Even with the new tax, this project will exceed available funds, requiring an additional $90,000 from the Capital Improvement General Fund.
- Replacement of the generator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Total Cost: $576,012
- Local Share Grant: -$350,000
- GON 2024: -$226,012
- South Reading Avenue Pump Station (currently in design/permitting)
- Projected Cost: $500,000
Looking ahead, new or increased General Fund expenditures in 2026 include:
- EBRP Budget: $20,000
- Boyertown Ambulance: $20,000
- Fire Apparatus Fund: $40,000
- Personnel: $17,000
We strongly encourage all residents to attend upcoming committee meetings. These meetings offer valuable insights into the needs, challenges, and discussions that inform decisions like this one. Your participation helps us maintain transparency and ensures that the voices of Boyertown are heard as we work together to preserve the town we love.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support in keeping Boyertown strong, safe, and well-maintained.
